what does the plus/minus mean when land is for sale?

ill see a sign for land for sale and it will say something like "for sale: land. 60 acres +/-" ill look up the website and it will just say "60 acres for sale and have the price for the whole 60" if i called the realtor would they be willing to sell less or more? im just confused by the whole thing.

Like the two previous answers indicated, it means "not exactly". Typically when a piece of land is subdivided, it is never "exactly" 60 acres. Natural land marks, barriers (things like cliffs, rivers, roads, etc) and things typically stop a subdivision to be exactly to the square foot of a "60 acre" parcel.

Remember, one acre is 43,560 square feet. 60 acres is going to be 2,613,600 square feet or a square lot that is roughly 1,616.65 feet long x 1,616.65 feet wide. Something this size, you wouldn’t notice the 0.65 of a foot one way or the other, which could make the lot either slightly larger or smaller then 60 acres "exactly".

When you buy the property, a title insurance policy should be obtained and they will give you a plat map showing the boundaries of the lot. The exact measurements on file with the county will show the exact size. Additionally, you can have a surveyor come in and re-measure before closing escrow.

We have an 80-acre plot of land in northern Michigan we’re trying to sell for around 1250 per acre. I would like to know what some sites are that we can list this on as my googling has just turned up random sites that weren’t beneficial.

I have 2 Acres of road frontage land in residential area of Central North Carolina for sale! It has been perked and surveyed. Landscaped in long needle pine trees. Great place for a home!Is their anyone interested? Please reply or contact me by email!
It is in Candor, NC. It is about 2 hours from beaches in both NC and SC and almost all major cities in NC! Pretty much dead center NC! The price is $18,000.00

if the land you want to buy is for sale as hunting land does that mean you can’t build on it and live there?

I see all the time hunting land for sale. Just wondered if it was limited to just hunting or if I could build a house and live on the property.

In my rural area land advertised as hunting land means no utilities, no septic, no well. Also be aware there is hunting in the area. This is to warn potential buyers what to expect. It is zoned agriculture but you are allowed to build a home. It is an expensive proposition since you must pay cash for the land. Bringing in electric can cost upward 50k, septic and well another 25k, Cut in a road for a driveway another 20k
And you haven’t even started to build.
