Does she look a good western pleasure horse?

To me she does cause how she sets her head low. I just want to see if anyone else thinks so

ok. Thanks Im not looking to buy her or anything. It just when I saw her thats what she looked like to me.

Her head and neck come straight out from her withers and she, as a result, will pack her neck and head straight out in front of her.

A low head seat does not a pleasure horse make. The horse HAS to be able to collect up with impulsion from behind and move CORRECTLY at the walk, jog and lope. Most of these horses possess a lot of natural talent and are bred to "move". (The Investors, the Dynamic Deluxes, the Zippo Pine Bars, etc.)

The AQHA WP horses have their own way of moving and currently are loping in such a manner that they either four beat, are horrific head bobbers, and at times seem almost to "stagger" down the rail at the lope. You’ll also see many lope with a canted in maneuver to keep this excessively slow lope going. Also many currently possess "spur stops" which according to some trainers, Bob Avila is one, is a most undesirable thing to put on a horse as he feels in interferes with other aspects of training. I agree. I won’t own one.

An example of a poor moving, head bobbing, artificially gaited, tricked up, AQHA WP horse……..in spite of this poor movement these horses are winning classes which is very revealing of the lack of knowledge of judges, trainers, exhibitors.

For comparison…..Invested Dimension, an AQHA stallion owned by Dana Hokana of Temucula, California….Reserve World Champion Senior Pleasure Horse……………

Notice this horse’s freedom of movement under saddle, and his relaxed way of going. No short strided, head bobbing four beat way of moving. He is a class act with a highly skilled owner trainer who KNOWS how to put a lope on a horse, and he is bred to MOVE.

EDIT: Well, hey, SNL, you’re part of the current problem, YHNFC. Take your own advice and take a look at the video you posted. What do you see, head bobbers from crawling along too slowly at the lope. You’ll see them (judges) placing these loser four beaters, over canted, artificial moving, head bobbing horses at every show. Apparently you do NOT take "The Quarter Horse Journal" and read the current letters sent in by AQHA members/exhibitors OBJECTING to the way these horses are moving and allowed to win…. Of course the AQHA puts out videos like this encouraging trainers/exhibitors to "please" do as they suggest and it AIN’T happening. And it won’t happen as long as trainers/exhibitors ignore their requests.

If you have a pen full of head bobbing, four beating, artificial moving horses, every one of them doing it, then who are YOU going to place first? Have you ever worked with an AQHA Judge, (I doubt it). I have in fact worked with several. They had to determine a winner out of a pen full of losers…isn’t a fun position for the Judge to be in.

By placing one of these "losers" as a "winner", the Judge is inadvertently "endorsing" the way these horses are moving……because he has been presented with crappy moving horses, a pen full of ‘em, with no other choices. This is the way it works and it is how this lousy movement gets promoted. No doubt SNL, this is beyond you.

One of your "winning" pleasure horses….how pathetic. A head bobbing fool. "Just love how his neck and head hang straight out from his withers"…if his head got any lower he’d hit his knees with it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRDQNKvDyi8

Love this "trotting in front" lope, by golly it’s "consistent" (your words)….so much for YOUR movement. I’m waiting for her to fall over. Love her "elevated" back too…bet you think she has one, don’t you?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y492eS2N800

WHY do you think the the NSBA(National Snaffle Bit Association) was formed????(Also represented in your video)……. To try to correct some of the blatent offenses seen out in the pen. From horses who were hung, bled, starved, and subjected to other abuses in order to achieve the "look" which you find so appealing out in the pen.

The current crop of "SUCCESSFUL" WP horses are injected, both in their spines and hocks, with anti inflammatory meds, in order to continue to be shown in all three gears out in the pen but particularly addressing the lope for its "suspension" time between strides and treating the inflammation that this suspension creates. So much for going slow. But, you think that’s cool…right?

PS…I just returned from one of the largest AQHA circuits in the nation and guess what…these artificial, crappy movers are still placing.

No doubt you believe everything you read and hear. You’re part of the problem. And you’ll continue to promulgate these poor moving pleasure horses until you enlighten yourself as to what a really beautifully moving pleasure horse represents.

But in the interim, the rest of us don’t know what we’re talking about but you do.

Edit: Ahh the knuckle dragging thumbs downers….my critics…no doubt you also endorse drugging horses. Eh? Thought so.

  4. no, a low head set does not equal a WP horse. they need short slow smooth strides, and they need the proper carriage & frame. they need to carry their backs up and have impulsion from their hindquarters.

SliverSlider- if you were really as active in the AQHA as you say you are, you would know that WP horses will be DQ if they have a 4 beat gait, or head to far below the verticle. WP horses are winning cause they have consistant strides/gaits where as some of the slightly faster ones do not. check out this video from AQHA

  5. It doesn’t really matter a whole ton that her head is set low….it depends on how she moves.
she could certainly be trained for it im sure.
